Roadside parking near Portinscale suspension bridge

This is somewhere I tend to start walking from qutie a lot. It's nice and handy for Keswick, Borrowdale, Newlands Valley, Skiddaw, Latrigg and even the Castlerigg Stone Circle area.

The parking is free and no matter at what time of year or time of day I've always managed to get a space here.

From here you're only about 10 minutes walk from Keswick with everything the town has to offer, and in the opposite direction you're less than 5 minutes walk from Portinscale.

Route Map

Today, we're Christmas shopping in Keswick and as it turned out to be such a nice day after all, we thought it a good idea to include a walk on a day when the walking boots were originally being left at home.

Latrigg seen from Spooney Green Lane. I've walked along here quite a few times this year.

Jennifer ads scale to the footpath erosion caused by last years floods.

Latrigg viewpoint. Seems to be lots of cloud further south.

Ah - - - we almost went there today. Perhaps we should have stuck to that plan.

Cloud drama over Thirlmere.

Zooming in on the Mell Fells (Great & Little).

Looking ahead to Blease Fell / Blencathra.

and a few minues later.

The sunshine was lovely walking back through the woods. Very mild indeed.

And to finish, we walk into Keswick to do some Christmas shopping which was the main reason for coming here today. The walk was a very nice bonus.
