Apart from a visit to Brockhole itself, the only realistic option for a walk from here is to cross the main road and head onto the Wansfell / Troutbeck area via Mirk Lane or Wain Lane.

There is a charge and particularly during the summer months, this is a very busy place indeed.

We set of from the car park at Brockhole today and unfortunately for us, you pay to park and get in for nowt instead of the other way around.

This was the first of two short walks today. As we were driving past here to do another short walk, it made sense to stop off and make a day of it, so to speak.

Middlerigg Tarn is on private ground but you can still get close enough to view the tarn at close quarters.

You have to admit, as far as having a water feature in your back garden goes this is pretty good.

Wain Lane.

Almost at the top of the lane now and Windermere comes into view in the distance.

Looking across to Coniston Old Man (under cloud) and Wetherlam.

Zooming in a little on Windermere.

Here's where we leave the road and begin to make our way back down to the car.

Mirk Lane.

"That didn't take long. What ya doing now; going home"
"No, we're driving up the road to Windermere for a walk there"
