Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Binsey and Bassenthwaite seen just after the start of the walk.

Gorze (or perhaps Gorse). Not the most attractive plant from a distance but actually quite nice from close quarters. I wouldn't like to sit on it, , , ,

This is the steepest bit of the route if not the steepest bit (path) on the whole fell.

Looking down to Dubwath and the end of Bassenthwaite Lake.

and a wider view showing Binsey as well.

"I thought you said everywhere would be dry"
"It is, , , , , except this bit"

Sunshine and shade on the Skiddaw fells.

To the left of the previous picture you see the Uldale fells.

A close up of Dodd and in the distance is Great Dodd, Watson's Dodd and Stybarrow Dodd. So that's 4 dodds for the price of one.

At the pile of stones on Rivings. I wonder where all the stones came from.

Ah, this could be the answer, unless it was a very low wall in the first place.

Looking back across to Rivings.

Sale Fell summit.

and again, this time showing the Skiddaw fells, Clough Head, the Dodds, Helvellyn and part of Keswick.

A view across to Lord's Seat and Broom Fell.

Looking back up to Sale Fell summit.

On the home stretch now and although we'd only been out for an hour or so, it was a satisfying walk and a great way to spend an evening.
