Roadside, Brownrigg Farm

Generally used as the starting point for an ascent of Great Mell Fell, this is merely the end of a farm lonning which is wide enough the accommodate three or four cars. This is somewhere I've never failed to get parked.

The walk I'd set out to do today might not have been the most ambitious of outings, but the rain that turned up later in the walk was still heavy enough to make me cut it short. I was going to walk up Great Mell Fell and then return the slightly longer way round by Matterdale End. Never mind, the sunshine was nice while it lasted.

Looking back down the track between the car parking spaces and the fell itself.

Passing by one of the many misshapen trees on Great Mell Fell.

and another one, this time in front of Little Mell Fell.

I'll bet the umbrella shop in Glenridding is doing a good trade this afternoon.

So far so good, but thankfully I had enough mistrust in the weather to carry waterproofs.

Great Mell Fell summit in front of Blencathra, the Mungrisdale fells, Latrigg and in the distance the north western fells.

It's only a matter of time until all that reaches me. Unfortunately it arrived sooner rather than later.

Turning around to see Clough Head and the Dodds.

A close up of Red Screes, Middle Dodd, Little Hart Crag, Hartsop Above How, Arnison Crag and a little bit of Ullswater.

Yes, it's the trees that are leaning over and not me. Even I'm not this bad at getting a level photograph.

Two minutes after taking this picture the heavens opened, , , , they didn't just open a little bit, it was absolutely lashing it down.
