Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

I've been so fed up with the weather and stuff stopping me getting out mid week that I was determined to have a walk today. A full day would have been great, a half day would have been good, but a short walk like this was still nice.
I was surprised there weren't any other cars here when I arrived. The place never exactly gets crowded, but it isn't often like this.

Grey clouds above Embleton.

Looking across the end of Bassenthwaite Lake to Binsey.

A close up of Routenbeck.

Just below the summit I took this photo looking over Rivings and Lothwaite to the Skiddaw Fells.

and from the top, a view over to Dodd on the left, Lord's Seat on the right and the eastern fell in the distance.

Twins!

You have two choices when you reach this end of Sale Fell, turn right to get back to the church or turn left and head into Wythop Valley as I did today.

I guess this means summer is just about over; such as it was.

Almost at Wythop Mill now, and as if by magic, the sun came out.

Wythop Mill.

Well, I really enjoyed that. After too many missed opportunities it felt good to walk at sometime other than a weekend.
