I can't believe how quickly time seems to be flying past these days, or am I just getting older. It seems no time at all since the start of the year and here I am already on the final walk of the year on New Years Eve. If I had to sum this year up, or at least the final third of it, I would say windy and unsettled. For months now I've felt like the luxury of being able to pick and choose walking days has been taken away. It's been a case of trying not to miss out on the better days and just making the best of the others. I can't remember a time when I was kept off the fells so often because of high winds. Such is life I suppose and there's nothing any of us can do about the weather.
Despite this bit of negativity, I've still had a good year of walking and as usual, my happiest and most memorable hours have been spent among the fells, the lakes, strolling by a riverside or just walking along a country road somewhere.
I only had two small walking ambitions this year, one of which I did and the other, for no particular reason, I didn't get around to doing. I know I must set my sights pretty low, but the one I did was a complete circuit of Coniston Water and the one I didn't do was a circuit of Bassenthwaite. Perhaps in 2012, , , I'll have to wait and see.
