Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

We only had a short walk out today because the whole place seemed to be blanketed in low cloud and it had been drizzling for most of the morning. So, we hung back until after dinner and had a walk over Sale Fell on the way to Keswick to get Jennifer some 'warmer' walking trousers.

Slipping and sliding about on the mud. I thought I was being clever by suggesting she should walk on the grass, but that turned out to be just as slippery, if not worse, so Jennifer politely took no notice of me and carried on walking up the path.

A view down to Embleton.

A close up of Dubwath and the end of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Looking across to Lothwaite.

Up into the cloud we go, and even though we were only up here for a short time, cloud is cloud and we didn't get a view from the top. The biggest surprise up here was the wind. From about this height upwards, it was blowing a gale.

"Skiddaw must be over there is it"
"More or less, but never mind Skiddaw, just concentrate on not getting blown over"

The route back down.

Ling Fell, or at least the bottom of it.

This is the point where the route off the fell loops back round towards the road and our car.
