Car park, Ashness Bridge

This is a large parking area found only a minutes walk from the ever popular Ashness Bridge. Despite most people never walking any further then the said bridge, this is a great place to start a walk onto this end of the central ridge.

Despite its popularity parking is free.

Route Map

As the sign said on the gate, this is Ashness Cottage, NOT Ashness Farm. Something must have upset them.

This is the farm, NOT the cottage.

And again.

The view from Surprise View wasn't clear by any stretch of the imagination this afternoon, so I settled for this picture of the headland next to Barrow Bay.
Perhaps I'll have better luck later on when I'm walking back to the car.

Taking the path down to Watendlath Beck.

Watendlath Beck.

Looking ahead, ,

, , and looking back.

Brilliant, it looks like I might get some sunshine after all.

And here it is.

A long distance view back down the valley.

One of the cottages in Watendlath.

On what had turned out to be an otherwise dull afternoon I managed to get warm sunshine while I was at Watendlath. Perfect timing or what?

On the return journey I simply followed the road back from Watendlath to the car park next to Ashness Bridge.

Surprise View. It was even duller (if there is such a word) than it was earlier. Perhaps I should have taken a picture on the way up the road.
