Starting Point Information Centre
Car park, Newlands Valley

Newlands is my favourite of all the Lakeland valleys and this car park offers easy access to the very heart of the place. For those with a preference for higher places, Causey Pike and Barrow are both within easy reach of the car park.

Parking is free.

Route Map

Cat Bells, seen through the gateway at Stoneycroft.

The bridge over Stoneycroft Gill. The fell on the skyline is Causey Pike.

Looking over Stair to Swinside and the northern fells.

"I'm not surprised you've got a squint, have you seen what you're sitting on"

Stair Bridge.

Rowling End (left) and Causey Pike (centre). Taken from the bridge.

Barrow, taken from the roadside next to Skelgill farm.

It wasn't half windy along here, but at least it was still quite warm, the sun was out and I never saw anyone else until I got as far as Newlands Church.

On the opposite side of the valley is Knott Rigg, Ard Crags, Sail, Scar Crags and Causey Pike.

It looks like the guy who built this bridge left his spirit level at home that day.

Hindscarth and Robinson. I took this picture just before I followed the road down to Newlands Church.

Daffodils next to the road near Newlands church.

Newlands Church.

One final picture, looking across to the northern fells; topped with cloud.
