Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Route Map

I didn't really have any plans to get out for a walk today, at least I didn't until I saw the forecast for tomorrow (horrendous sums it up). In light of this I decided to take advantage of a dry afternoon and have a short walk on Sale Fell.

A view down to Dubwath.

A long view through Embleton.

A close up of Bassenthwaite. The fells on the skyline are Longlands Fell and Brae Fell.

For such a small fell there really are so many options for routes around this area. Today I thought I'd take a quick route to the top and then a longer walk back to the car via the road at Wythop Mill.

Skiddaw, the Ullock Pike ridge and Dodd, all looking rather dark behind Lothwaite.

Lord's Seat and Broom Fell seen from the top of Sale Fell.

It seemed like I'd been out for no time at all, and I was on the way back down already.

Heading down the not too steep, but very slippery path to Brumston Bridge. OK I admit it, I ended up on my backside, , , twice.

A grey autumnal afternoon near Brumston Bridge.

Brumston Bridge.

Almost at Wythop Mill.

Wythop Beck taken from the bridge at Wythop Mill.

The lovely little village of Wythop Mill.
