Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Route Map

At this time of year you'd expect to be doing quick evening walks because you're short of time or more to the point because it's a bit too hot during the day. It seems rather sad that we were prompted to do this walk because it looked like we may actually get a couple of hours of brightness which we didn't want to miss. Sadder still is the total lack of confidence in the weather, which made us carry our waterproof jackets, even though I knew we be out for little more than an hour.

A close up of the end of Bassenthwaite Lake and Binsey.

And looking a little further to the right you see Bassenthwaite (village) and some of the Back O'Skiddaw fells.

I'm not sure if it's because of the wet summer or what, but there seems to be more heather about this year.

Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed the bracken starting to turn; a sure sign that 'summer' is drawing to a close.

Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwent Water (just) and very dark looking Skiddaw fells.

"You couldn't give me a hand could you?" "I can't quite reach the itchy bit".

Looking across to Lord's Seat.

I'm glad I'm here and not there !
