It was roasting hot this morning when we left Buttermere and the conditions were just perfect for a lower level walk which would give a group of people a couple hour glimpse of just how beautiful the Lake District is.

About a month ago I was asked by Allison, a friend of ours, if I could suggest an easy (ish) walk and also "show the way" for a group of people from Tesco in Whitehaven. The walk was just one of a selection of events taking place to raise money for Tesco's charity of the year 2008 - Marie Curie Cancer Care. A charity which provides high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people a choice of dying at home, supported by their families.

A few different places were discussed, but in the end I said "if you're wanting a nice, easy (ish) walk for people who aren't really used to walking on the fells, then a circuit of Buttermere is about a good as you're ever going to get". Especially on a good day; which it certainly turned out to be.

As it was so tame, this bird was obviously used to being fed by people in Buttermere. Unfortunately it left us feeling somewhat less than impressed by the lack of food on offer. Although, I'm sure there were quite a few other people passing through the village today who would leave behind a more respectable feast of crumbs for the local bird population.
