Starting Point Information Centre
Car park, Newlands Valley

Newlands is my favourite of all the Lakeland valleys and this car park offers easy access to the very heart of the place. For those with a preference for higher places, Causey Pike and Barrow are both within easy reach of the car park.

Parking is free.

On the steepest section of the path below Causey Pike summit with a large area of Newlands Valley visible.

Looking along the ridge to Scar Crags.

The view of the path leading up to a cloud covered Sail, taken just after passing over Scar Crags. I didn't continue onto Sail today, instead, my route took me off to the right , , , ,

, , , and along this path towards High Moss and Outerside. Before getting to High Moss however, I took a short detour to Long Comb to have something to eat and to take some photos of the sheepfold found there.

The sheepfold in Long Comb. Outerside can be seen in the top left of the picture.

Outerside summit with Sail and Crag Hill behind.

My last fell of the day was Barrow, seen here on the left of the picture. However, if you didn't want to include Barrow on the walk, the quickest and easiest way back to the Newlands Valley road would be to follow the path running through the middle of the picture. If you did follow the path to it's end, it would bring you out on the opposite side of the road to the car park.

The view back to Outerside.

Sunlight moving across the valley in front of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Derwent Water, the Keswick end of the central ridge and a snow covered section of the eastern fells.

A close up of the little hamlet of Stair.

Bassenthwaite Lake and Binsey (the highest point on the distant skyline).
