Car park, Tarn Hows

Tarn Hows is reputed to be one of the Lake Districts most popular tourist destinations. I should point out that the prices in the car park and the amount of traffic would help to confirm this. This is a car park I wouldn't even think of trying to park after 10 am during the summer months.

I you are lucky enough to find a space then Tarn Hows itself is no more than a couple of minutes walk away.

Looking back down the track leading to Tongue Gill.

The ford on Tongue Gill.
From here the path up to Grisedale Hause splits giving two different routes to the same place. Today we decided to take the lower (easier) path that follows Tongue Gill.

The path we followed can be seen on the left side of the gill.

Grisedale Tarn with St Sunday Crag on the right of the picture.

Looking over Grisedale Hause to the steep path up to Fairfield. Taken from the path up to Seat Sandal.

A very similar view, only this time looking back to Seat Sandal from the path up to Fairfield.

Grisedale Hause and Grisedale Tarn taken just before we walked up into the cloud.

Fairfield without a view.

A brief gap in the cloud along the ridge to Great Rigg.

Below the cloud at last and looking down the ridge to Rydal Fell and Herron Pike.
Windermere and Esthwaite Water can be seen in the Distance. This picture was taken just before we left the main ridge and headed to Stone Arthur on the right.

Alcock Tarn can just be seen on the left of the picture.
