Parking spaces, High Side, Bassenthwaite

The half dozen or so spaces near High Side offer a nice and handy option for access to the Ullock Pike ridge or the Bakestall area. Although there aren't many spaces this is somewhere I've always been able to get a space and it is free.

Early morning light on one of the fields I had to walk through to get to the start of the Ullock Pike Ridge.
Binsey is the fell in the background.

Bassenthwaite Lake with Lord's Seat and Broom Fell behind. Taken from Ling How.

I had perfect conditions for walking this morning, the light was great, the views were clear and the cloud was coming and going almost by the minute.
This picture was taken from the path below Ullock Pike. By the time I reached Longside Edge the cloud in the valley had risen to a height just above the ridge, yet it never actually came over onto the other side of the fell. I had bright sunshine and clear views on one side of me and a wall of cloud on the other. Just right for broken spectres; I managed to count nine as I walked along Longside Edge. This is more than I would normally see in a whole year. Just fantastic!

Bassenthwaite Lake.

Broken Spectre.

Looking back to Ullock Pike with the cloud slowly starting to clear.

Long Side from Carl Side.

The North Western fells from Carl side.

Carl Side and the North Western fells taken from the start of the steep scree path up to Skiddaw.

Looking down to Ullock Pike and Long Side.

Skiddaw Summit.

Keswick and Derwent Water with quite a nice cloud formation on Maiden Moor, High Spy and Dale Head.

One of the many small pools along the route between Jenkin Hill and Lonscale Fell.

Keswick and Derwent Water again this time from Lonscale Fell. Notice the cloud has gone off the High Spy ridge.

Skiddaw Little Man and Skiddaw.

Skiddaw House (in the trees), Great Calva behind and some of the Back O'Skiddaw fells. Taken from the path I followed down from Lonscale Fell.

Looking through the Heather clad fellside to Skiddaw House.

Skiddaw House from Salehow Beck.

Carrock Fell in the distance seen from the bridge in the previous picture.
The black marks in the picture are just a couple of the countless insects that plagued me along this part of the route.

Skiddaw House.

Carrock Fell again this time from the front of Skiddaw House.

Great Calva also taken from the front of Skiddaw House.

Binsey in the distance and Brockle Crag taken from just above Dash Falls.

A sheepfold found at the start of Southerndale.

Some of the Back O'Skiddaw fells from Barkbeth Hill.
