Car park, opposite Patterdale Hotel

I think I'm correct in saying that the hotel actually owns the car park, so needless to say there is a charge. Thankfully this is a daily charge and if I'm honest it is well worth the cost when you consider the fantastic selection of walk that can be undertaken from this spot.

It does tend to fill up rather quickly though, and not only during the summer months.

Ullswater from the path up to Arnison Crag.
Heavy rain was forecast to come in around midday, so I picked a route with a couple of places that I could cut the walk short from. Luckily the rain never put in an appearance so I managed to complete the longer walk.

Black Crag, Birks. Gavel Pike is the dark pointed fell in the background.

Hartsop with Hartsop Dodd, Gray Crag and the High Street fells behind. From Arnison Crag.

From Arnison Crag looking towards Sheffied Pike. The fell on the left of the picture is Birkhouse Moor.

Hartsop, Gray Crag and the High Street fells from the route between Arnison Crag and Trough Head.

Ullswater from just above Trough Head.
The large fell in the back right of the picture is Place Fell. Gowbarrow and Great Mell Fell can be seen in the far distance.

Birks Summit looking towards Gowbarrow and Great / Little Mell Fells.

Looking back along the route up to St Sunday Crag just before the view disappeared in the cloud.

St Sunday Crag summit.
During the final couple of minutes walk to the summit the cloud rolled in taking away any views. Just after I walked past the summit the cloud lifted again so I went back to take this picture.

Grisedale Tarn and Seat Sandal from Deepdale Hause.

Dollywaggon Pike and Nethernost Pike (in cloud) from Deepdale Hause.

Grisedale Tarn.

Ruthwaite Lodge.

Looking down the long walk ahead of me through Grisedale.

This time looking back up the route.

Lanty's Tarn.
A short de-tour from the main route to Patterdale, but well worth the extra effort.
