Some would say that Scar Crags isn't really anything more than the ridge of ground linking Causey Pike and Sail. Perhaps they're right, , , who knows. Personally, I can't be bothered with the ridicules discussions people have about places needing to qualify and meet certain criteria to be called a mountain (fell). It would be easy to sit in the house analysing the fells out of existence, but what's the point in that. I much prefer to get my boots on and go for a walk on them.
Whatever your views of Scar Crags it makes for some good fell walking, whether it be the main aim of a walk or if it's included on a walk taking in other fells in the area. For a great half day walk, Scar Crags slots in nicely with a walk which also takes in Causey Pike, Outerside and Barrow. This group of four fells can be walked using so many different interlinking routes you'd hardly ever need to do the same walk more than once.
