The number of times I get onto Robinson doesn't really match the enjoyment I get when I'm actually there. This is a shame to be honest because there are so many good routes to this fell and it deserves more attention than it gets from me.

You can get to the top from lots of different directions, and could quite easily do half a dozen different walks before you ever needed to repeat one of them. My favourite of which is the long walk from Cat Bells around to Dale Head and then along the ridge. This one really is a good day on the fells. My preferred route just to get to the top however, is the steep route up from Hassness on the Buttermere side.

One thing to point out up here is Buttermere Moss; the flattish area to the west of the summit. Two routes run through this area and if you find yourself here after periods of rain, be prepared for a wet experience.

Route suggestions

Route suggestion: Hassness - Hassnesshow Beck - Robinson
1.2 mile / approx 1900 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
This route might be little more than a mile in distance, but make no mistake, the middle section is in your face and you'll find yourself puffing and panting your way up here. The views are well worth the effort though, it's also a quick way to gain lots of height and once you're up there you have a good few options where to go next.

You should know there is only space for a couple of cars at the bottom of the path, so parking could be a problem here. The best option is to try here first and if it is full simply go to Buttermere village or Gatesgarth and walk back to the path.

Route suggestion: Buttermere - Newlands Pass - Nr High Snockrigg - Buttermere Moss - Robinson
2 mile / approx 2000 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
This is a really enjoyable walk onto Robinson and the obvious route to the summit directly from the village of Buttermere. The section between the village and Buttermere Moss is quite steep in places, but nothing that I'd describe as off putting. The only negative side to this route will be the waterlogged walk through Buttermere Moss.

Route suggestion: Chapel Bridge - Newlands Church - Low High Snab - High Snab Bank - Blea Crags - Robinson
2.8 mile / approx 2000 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
Of all the routes to the summit this is the only one which is a true ridge walk or should I say walk up a ridge not shared by other fells. The most convenient place to begin this route is the small car park next to Chapel Bridge in Newlands Valley. This also offers a sensible place to get back to, depending on where you go after leaving Robinson.

The main thing to be careful of with this one is the rocky section on Blea Crags. This will be very slippery when wet and in those conditions probably worth avoiding.
