Maiden Moor

Apart from avid peak baggers or those who simply like to walk to the highest point of a fell, I suspect that many walkers who come here miss the summit out altogether; be it intentionally or otherwise. The main path over Maiden Moor to High Spy runs a little to the east of the summit, add this to the flatness of the fell, and it lends itself perfectly to just walking across without 'looking for the top'. Even if you're not too fussed about going to the top, the path around the edge of Bull Crag offers some great airy views down to Newlands Valley.

Route suggestions

Route suggestion: Grange - Manesty - Hause Gate - Maiden Moor
2.3 mile / approx 1600 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
I know there is a bit of road walking at the start of this route, but don't let that put you off. It doesn't last too long and although there are perhaps a few places you could park further along the road, Grange makes for a good start and finish point for a walk.

Route suggestion: Chapel Bridge - Little Town - towards Hause Gate - Maiden Moor
1.9 mile / approx 1400 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
Although there isn't a huge amount to see, I'm sure anyone interested in old mine workings will still enjoy a de-tour to look around the Yewthwaite mines area.

The only slightly awkward bit on this route is the short section between crossing Yewthwaite Gill and passing the sheepfold. This section is very stony and somewhat loose under foot.
