Despite it's ever growing popularity, of all the higher fells in the Lake District this (and Skiddaw) is the one I've ascended more than any other. It is by no means my favourite fell but it is somewhere I never tire of visiting because it seems to have an irresistible pull that makes you want to come back time and time again. Some of my most enjoyable winter walking has been on Helvellyn. It is generally less busy at this time of year and a particularly good fell to walk in challenging conditions.
There are so many ways you can include Helvellyn in a walk that you could visit the summit half a dozen times or more before you need to consider doing the same route.
