Woodhow Tarn

Map

Woodhow Tarn is set in the lovely countryside between Nether Wasdale and Wast Water. A pleasant spot indeed, more pleasant however is the walk to the tarn, through farmland and along quiet country lanes. Once you reach the tarn a degree of disappointment ensues because the tarn itself is protected by walls and fences, making it difficult to photograph or view from different angles to the ones in these pictures.

Amongst other things Wasdale plays host to England's deepest lake, Britain's favourite view and England's highest mountain, which if it had an address would probably be something like Scafell Pike, Wasdale, Cumbria, CAxx xxx. At this point I should offer my gratitude to these grand and lofty occupants of Wasdale for their part in luring the majority of visitors to the head of the dale, leaving places like Woodhow Tarn and Flass Tarn for those of us who enjoy a more intimate relationship with the Lake District.
