This is a charming little tarn found at a height of 1260ft on the fellside between Alcock Tarn and Nab Scar. In spite of its closeness to the ever popular ridge stretching from Rydal to Fairfield, this is a tarn that receives very few visitors indeed; almost reserved for the avid tarn hunter so to speak.
There aren’t any paths leading to the Dockey Tarn and to make it even more difficult to find, very few places exist where you can obtain a long distance view of the tarn. The most prominent sighting can be had from the corner of the wall that crosses the path on Nab Scar. And after saying that I should add that during the summer months the tarn is sufficiently hidden by the dense Bracken to hide it completely; if it hasn’t dried up altogether. Those lucky enough to catch a glimpse will usually be deterred from making the off path journey by the prospect of fighting their way back up through the Bracken to gain the main ridge again.
