Dock Tarn

Map

Of all the tarns in the Lake District this one has to be my favourite. The main reason for this is beacuse it was the first tarn I had ever seen. I’d heard that there were lots of tarns high up in the fells. Because I never really thought I would ever get see one of them, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Then on a sunny spring morning in 1994 I decided to find out.

There was still a little snow on the higher fells, and it was quite warm. The perfect day for walking. So I set of on what was my first ever walk where I actually lost site of civilisation, and a map was needed to ensure I was on the right track. Quite an adventure!

Dock Tarn comes into view and just as we thought, it had a good covering of ice.
