Boredale Hause provide a pass of modest height linking Patterdale with Boredale and Martindale. You could argue that it's just as easy to walk around the side of Ullswater and gain access to the said valleys via Sandwick. However, this pass ticks all the boxes, has been in use for many centuries and deserves to be included.
Although I've indicated that this route runs from Patterdale, Boredale Hause could equally be used as a route over from Hartsop by leaving the valley path between Dubhow and Beckstones.
Close to the top of the pass is the ruin of what is believed to be an old chapel dating from earlier then the 13th century. Modern maps still mark the ruin as "Chapel in the Hause".
